Actor Will Ferrell attends the championship match between Leeds and Burnley

Actor Will Ferrell attended Leeds United’s Championship match against Burnley at Elland Road on Saturday.

The “Anchorman” star has been a minority shareholder in Leeds since this year. The club, which plays in the English second division, is run by the owners of the San Francisco 49ers from the NFL.

The ownership group first invested in Leeds in 2018 and increased its stake to 44% at the end of 2021. In 2023, it agreed to take over Leeds, with NBA star Russell Westbrook and golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas also acquiring minority stakes in the club.

Ferrell is also co-owner of MLS team LAFC.

Unfortunately for Ferrell, his presence was no inspiration for the home team, who suffered a 1-0 defeat thanks to an 18th-minute goal from Luca Koleosho.

Ferrell, 57, is one of several American celebrities who have invested in English football following the success of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney at Wrexham.

Former NFL quarterback Tom Brady is a minority owner of Birmingham City.

On Friday, Wrexham signed two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning as a fan ahead of his team’s League One match against Brady’s Birmingham.
