Actor from the film “The Godfather” and the TV series “Full House” dies at the age of 83

LOS ANGELES, California — Actor John Aprea, who had a long career in film and television, including a role in the classic “The Godfather Part II” and appearances on the television series “Full House,” has reportedly died at the age of 83.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Aprea died of natural causes in Los Angeles on August 5.

Aprea was born on March 4, 1941, in Englewood, New Jersey, according to his biography on IMDB.com. His acting career began in 1968 with a role in the film “Bullitt,” starring Steve McQueen. Notable films in his career include “Caged Heat” (1974), “Crazy Mama” (1975), and “The Ambassador of Fear” (2004).

His most notable role, however, was that of the young Sal Tessio in The Godfather Part II in 1974. Tessio was portrayed by Abe Vigoda in The Godfather. Aprea reportedly auditioned for the role of Michael Corleone in The Godfather, the role that eventually went to Al Pacino.

Aprea has appeared in several television shows throughout his career, including “Mannix,” “Wonder Woman,” “The A-Team,” and a recurring role on the soap opera “Another World.” In “Full House,” he portrayed the father of John Stamos’ character Jesse Katsopolis. He reprised the role in an episode of the show’s reboot, “Fuller House.”

USA Today reports that Aprea leaves behind his wife, Betsy Graci, a daughter, Nicole, and stepchildren Marika Parker and Valentino Graci.
