Netflix has a new action film from Indonesia on offer: The shadow gets lostfrom renowned director Timo Tjahjanto, and it has just been confirmed that it will have its world premiere at TIFF 2024 before being released in full on Netflix in mid-October 2024.
The streamer first revealed the film in July 2023, when production was already underway, and confirmed a 2024 release date during the “Next on Netflix” reveal earlier this year.
Timo Tjahjanto is working on the project and is teaming up with Netflix again for his third project. This new film follows The Big 4 (out in 2022) and The Night Comes For Us (out in 2018). A fourth project is planned and that is a new horror film called May the devil take you.
Adipati Dolken, Hana Malasan, Aurora Ribero, Ali Fikri and Kristo Immanuel are among the big names set to appear in the film when it hits the platform later this year.

Here is the official synopsis of the film, courtesy of Netflix:
“Codename 13, a 17-year-old trained assassin, is suspended for a sloppy mission in Japan. The girl developed a conscience when she met Monji, an 11-year-old boy who lost his mother to a crime syndicate. When Monji is captured, 13 is hell-bent on leaving a trail of destruction to save the boy, even going against her mentor and the organization that hired her, the Shadows.”

The shadow gets lost is part of TIFF’s “Midnight Madness” events, which feature premieres of the “best action, horror, shock and fantasy films.” TIFF will take place across Toronto from September 5-15, with screening dates to be announced on August 13. Netflix will also showcase many of its other titles set to premiere at TIFF later in 2024. Other titles premiering or being showcased include Will and Harper, Rez Ball, Emilia PerezAnd Pedro Paramo.
