According to Pinterest, red Christmas trees are trending

Despite the August heatwave, Pinterest’s latest trends report shows that many of us are already thinking about Christmas and starting to plan our celebrations early. There has been a huge increase in searches for festive occasions and the most noticeable decorating trend and search term that has gained popularity is “red Christmas trees”.

Red Christmas trees are undoubtedly an unusual Christmas trend (according to Pinterest, searches have increased by 6.6 times) and certainly not for the faint of heart, but that’s not very surprising.

In the interior design world, 2024 was the year of the unexpected red theory – the decorating trend that suggests a small dose of red in any room can instantly elevate a scheme. Now, that theory is creeping into Christmas decor. A red Christmas tree is definitely unexpected, but will no doubt be a talking point during the holiday season.

Red Christmas trees are perfect for a maximalist Christmas concept. Go with the motto “more is more” and fill your space with bold colors and quirky, modern designs for a cheerful and playful festive atmosphere.

We know that red Christmas trees are a rare find (unless you decide to spray paint one), and let’s face it, they’re not for everyone, so you can capitalize on the trend and go bold with red Christmas tree decorations.

But it is not all about red Christmas trees. According to Pinterest, other popular Christmas searches (not surprisingly) revolve around food, with searches for “Christmas cookies” increasing six-fold, “Christmas cookies” increasing 5.5-fold, and “Christmas drinks” increasing three-fold.

“It’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas,” says Matt Siberry, Head of Home at Pinterest UK. “It may be August already, but people are heading to Pinterest to start preparing for the holidays. The home is at the heart of the festivities every year, so it’s no surprise that Pinterest users are using the platform to gather inspiration, save and shop for everything from Christmas food and drink to festive decorations.”
