Aaron Rodgers praised by Jets HC Saleh: “His mind is still working at a high level” | News, scores, highlights, stats and rumors

Aaron Rodgers showed on Thursday night what he is still capable of.

The New York Jets quarterback completed 27 of 35 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns in his team’s 24-3 win over the New England Patriots. He also rushed for 18 yards on three runs.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh looked back on his quarterback’s performance after the game and acknowledged that Rodgers’ mental abilities are still at an elite level.

“He showed the agility that we’ve seen throughout training camp,” Saleh told reporters. “He may not be what he once was, but he still has a lot of leg strength, his arm is still 30 and his mind is still working at a high level. He was definitely impressive today.”

Rodgers also reflected on his physical condition after the game, saying he felt like the 2019 version of himself.

“That was kind of the first step to playing the way I can,” Rodgers said, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “I felt like myself from five years ago.”

The two touchdown passes were his first at MetLife Stadium, and came after his 2023 season with the franchise ended after just four snaps in the opening game when he tore his Achilles tendon.

His return to the field in 2024 came in a Week 1 loss for the Jets to the San Francisco 49ers, but he has since led the team to two straight wins. This season, he has now posted 624 passing yards with five touchdowns and just one interception.

He has brought stability to a position the franchise hasn’t experienced in a long time. It was a major reason for the team’s 13-year playoff drought, but early results in 2024 suggest that could soon be over.
