Aaron Ramsdale: Wolves transfer for Arsenal goalkeeper fails

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ transfer to Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has fallen through.

The deal with the 26-year-old has proven to be too expensive for the West Midlands club and is considered to be over, according to information from BBC Sport.

Ramsdale is keen to get into the first team after losing his place to David Raya and could leave the Emirates Stadium before Friday’s transfer deadline, but a move to Molineux is unlikely to happen again.

Last week, Wolves made a loan offer with an option to buy for around £20 million and continued talks with Arsenal over the weekend.

Ramsdale, who has played five times for England, joined the Gunners from Sheffield United in 2021 for £24 million and has two years left on his contract.

Wolves’ finances are tight, despite raising almost £100 million this summer through the sales of Pedro Neto and Max Kilman.

Following the 6-2 home defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, manager Gary O’Neil warned that the club would need to get its transfer business under control once the transfer window closes.

“If it closes, we have to feel comfortable where we are,” he said.

“I have a lot of work ahead of me and I need to get more out of our group. I also need to understand that the Premier League is tough and that if you sell good players you become weaker.”

Their £20million bid for Burnley winger Luca Koleosho was rejected last week and that deal is unlikely to go through either.
