A windy and unusually cool end to the working week

The passage of a cold front early in the day brought in cooler and drier air, and we’ll feel more like early fall than summer for a few more days. A large high pressure system waits over the Great Plains, while a low pressure system circles over the northern Great Lakes. We’re currently caught between these two surface features that provided the brisk winds during the day. They’ll ease up a bit tonight, but return quickly on Friday as these systems barely move. Tonight will be partly cloudy and cool, with lows in the 10s. Another factor in the cooler weather is a large low pressure system over southern Canada that will move over the Great Lakes on Friday and Saturday. This phenomenon will bring some additional clouds, especially during the afternoon hours. While moisture will be limited, scattered showers are possible Friday afternoon. Highs will remain around 15 degrees, with a low of 27 degrees considered average. Another cool night will follow with lows around 10 degrees until early Saturday morning.

The weekend will be very pleasant for all outdoor activities, although without the typical warmth. The high gradually moves east on Saturday and Sunday, keeping our weather dry and cooler than usual. It will warm up again to just under 21 degrees on Saturday, then 25 to 29 degrees on Sunday. The warming trend should continue into early next week as our wind flow shifts more to the southeast and south. Then we will also watch the next low develop over the Plains. A front associated with this system could move toward the state by the middle of next week, and then we will see rain chances again. Until then, however, it looks dry with mostly sunny skies and highs around 27 degrees.
