ATLANTA – There was music, but you couldn’t hear it during the celebration at the Mets clubhouse at Truist Park on Monday. It was almost as if waiting for Game 2 of the doubleheader against the Braves after already winning Game 1 to celebrate only made them louder and louder.

Even members of the media weren’t safe from a champagne bath: outfielder Tyrone Taylor caught reporters as they entered the clubhouse, and Francisco Lindor then gave them even more of a pass as they conducted interviews.

“Yeah! You’re all going to get it,” Lindor shouted as reporters surrounded David Stearns, the Mets’ president of baseball operations.

It was the relief the Mets needed after a season full of twists, turns, ups and downs. Suddenly, all the pain they had been through for 161 games disappeared for a moment. All that was left was happiness.

“There were a lot of times this year where it would have been easy for these guys to point fingers, but that never happened,” Stearns said of his team’s winning streak. “They stuck together, believed in each other and it allows us to have a moment like this, which is pretty cool.”

The Mets’ journey to this moment is picture-perfect. After starting the season 22-33, 11 games under .500, they finished 89-73, 16 games above.

That’s what Mets owner Steven Cohen loves most about his team: their tenacity.

“They never gave up and never gave up,” Mets owner Steve Cohen said. “I have never seen a more resilient group. They believed in themselves when many others didn’t, they just kept going and proved it. You have to admire that, it just shows you that anything is possible.”

After the Mets streamed onto the field for a team photo and then hung around taking selfies with each other and their family members, it was time to pack up and head back to Milwaukee. There they will meet the Brewers in the best-of-three Wild Card Series.

Mets team travel manager Edgar Suero reminded the remaining players of their travel plans, and DH JD Martinez followed with a reminder.

“We have to catch a bus,” Martinez said. “We’ll do it again in three days.”
