A film that Michael Keaton says absolutely “sucked” (but not everyone understands what he means by that)
Michael Keaton is an Oscar-nominated actor who has starred in numerous high-profile films that have been both critically acclaimed and huge box office hits. He has been both Batman And Birdman. He was number one at the box office and in films that won Best Picture. To say Keaton was a great actor would be an understatement, but there was at least one situation where the actor himself believed he was a failure.
Michael Keaton and Tim Burton have worked together several times. After stealing the show together in the original film, Beetle juice, He played the lead role in both of Burton’s Batman Films. Now, on the eve of the couple’s return for the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel, Keaton says there was one time when he let his director and friend down. Keaton believes he “sucked in Dumbo.” He told the New York Times…
The last time Michael Keaton and Tim Burton worked together was on Burton’s last film. Keaton played the role of VA Vandevere in Disney’s remake of DumboHe is the antagonist of the film, who Dumbo as an attraction for his entertainment venue, but then mistreats the elephant entrusted to him. Burton had helped launch the huge franchise of Disney live-action remakes, with Alice in WonderlandBut Dumbo failed to achieve the same box office success.
It is unclear what Keaton thinks he did wrong in Dumbo. His “cluelessness” could refer to a lack of understanding of the character he was playing or another element of the production, such as the visual effects.
One might think that in this case the director would step in and help the actor if he didn’t understand something. It sounds like that didn’t happen because the director was completely satisfied with Keaton’s performance. Tim Burton is in the interview next to the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Star and responds bluntly to the claim that Keaton screwed up with …
I absolutely agree with Tim Burton on this point. While the Dumbo The film isn’t the best live-action Disney remake or the best Tim Burton film, but Michael Keaton is by far the highlight of the remake and a big reason the film is as good as it is. He has the most exciting and interesting role in the whole film. He basically plays the evil Walt Disney, which is a bold move that few actors can really pull off. Michael Keaton is one of them.
If Keaton’s performance in Dumbo is one where the actor is terrible, then that just shows how good Keaton is as an actor. Even when he sucks, he’s still pretty good.
