A cyclist is arrested with serious injuries after a collision with a truck

ONEIDA, Wis. (WBAY) – A bicyclist was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a truck in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning, the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a bicyclist struck by a truck on County Trunk E near County Trunk J in Oneida.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a truck driven by a 33-year-old Oneida man was traveling on County Trunk E when it struck a 56-year-old De Pere man on a bicycle.

The cyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital by Theda Star. The driver of the truck was uninjured.

The accident is currently under investigation, but alcohol is believed to be a factor. The driver of the truck was arrested and booked into the Outagamie County Jail. He faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol causing personal injury and hit and run causing personal injury.

County Trunk E was closed for about 6 hours after the accident. It has now reopened.

The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Oneida Tribal Police, Oneida Fire Department, Oneida First Responders, Freedom First Responders, County Rescue Ambulance, Theda Star and Outagamie County Highway Department.
