“A completely different element” – Truck Series veteran is delighted with his son Layne Riggs’ first win

Winning in front of your father, who used to be a racer, must be a great feeling! Layne Riggs, a 21-year-old Craftsman Truck Series rookie, took a triumphant win in Milwaukee. “I don’t even know how to describe it,” ” Riggs shouted emotionally after the race. His enthusiastic team and especially his father – Scott Riggs, former truck star – also cheered with him.

Layne Riggs’ dominant race win was also a spectacle. Overflowing with emotion over his son’s Victory Lane ride, the senior Riggs trumped his own glorious past to defend Layne’s win. The father-son bond was evident in a post-race interview.

Scott Riggs’ NASCAR career began in 2000, before Layne was even born. The motorsports legend won five Truck Series races and four Xfinity races over the course of his 20-year career. Now Layne Riggs is continuing this tradition of success. Pole sitter Ty Majeski was tipped to win the LiUNAI 175!, the opening race of the playoffs, at the historic Milwaukee Mile. But then Riggs came along and took the lead with 53 laps to go.

In the end, Layne Riggs won by 1.547 seconds over Majeski. His father beamed with pride and congratulated his son and the No. 38 Front Row Motorsports team. “Oh man, so many emotions… from crying to laughing, just cheering – it was a whirlwind. But I’m really proud, not just of Layne, but of the whole team… They’re a bunch of young guys, young kids, I call them.

To express his special connection to the team and his feelings for the entire group, Scott Riggs added: “I feel like… all their dads… I just try to give them positive energy to think about what to focus on. I’m just proud of them for believing in each other, working so hard together and being able to accomplish this together.”

Then the proud father put his own achievements aside and gave more importance to Layne Riggs’ victory. “It’s very different. I’m very proud of what I’ve accomplished… But it’s obviously something completely different when you give your child that kind of success. I’m very proud of my son and my daughter when they… win competitions… I make sure they focus on what got them here… Don’t get too excited by the highs, don’t get too depressed by the lows. I think it just has something to do with my past and my career.”

Layne had waited a long time for the win. He had worked towards it all year and had even previously honored his father’s first-ever Truck win.

The homage to his father was worth it

While Scott Riggs spoke excitedly about his son, he also proudly showed off his colors. In early May, the South Carolina 200 at Darlington featured a retro design. The No. 38 Ford wore the colors of the No. 86 RC Cola machine that Scott drove in his debut race in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2000. Primary sponsor Infinity Communications was flexible and allowed the retro color scheme, which featured shades of blue and red. The only difference was the No. 38 on the sides of the truck.

Layne Riggs paid tribute to his father in the highest terms. “It’s really cool to wear this livery. This is Dad’s first chance as a full-time driver in the Truck Series, and it’s really my first time as a full-time driver in the Truck Series. It’s really cool to come full circle,” Riggs said after the truck was unveiled. “I know I’ve seen it in pictures for a long time and I saw him riding it as a kid and looking at old pictures. So it’s really cool to ride it.” Although it didn’t pay off in Darlington, he ultimately made his father proud in Milwaukee.

Clearly, the Riggs family is in the midst of a long-awaited series of celebrations. Layne Riggs has just begun his glorious journey in NASCAR, and many more milestones are still ahead of him.
