Motorists trying to travel through parts of Lodi on Wednesday faced long delays as a large truck rolled down Lockeford Street, Ham Lane and Turner Road.
The city of Lodi informed residents about the truck via social media on Tuesday morning.
In its post, the city said a 234-foot truck would pass through Lodi around 11 a.m. and that the vehicle would take about an hour to leave the city.
However, due to the size and load of the truck, its estimated arrival time in Lodi was delayed about three times, city spokeswoman Nancy Sarieh said.
At around 2 p.m., city employees asked the driver to wait outside city limits until children and families leaving area schools had left.
The truck parked on Highway 12 near Highway 88 until about 4 p.m. and then drove down Lockeford Street about an hour later, escorted by several California Highway Patrol vehicles.
Eventually she turned right onto Ham Lane and then left onto Turner Road, which headed west toward Napa County.
Caltrans spokesman Skip Allum said Atlas Heavy Transport was transporting a LH2 (liquid hydrogen) tank from California’s Arizona border to Calistoga.
Arrival in Elk Grove was scheduled for Tuesday night, arrival in Sacramento on Wednesday and arrival in Calistoga on Thursday, he said.
The tank will be used at a PG&E facility in this city.
According to solarpowerworldonline.com, Energy Vault, a provider of sustainable grid-scale energy storage solutions, is developing a utility-scale green hydrogen and battery energy storage system with 293 MWh of on-demand, carbon-free energy.
Known as the Calistoga Resiliency Center, the project is designed to provide 48 hours of continuous power and 8.5 MW of peak power during regional power outages for safety reasons.
According to Energy Vault, the center is the largest of its kind.
