This won’t do much to dispel the rumors of a relationship between A’Ja Wilson and Bam Adebayo.
On Wednesday, the Miami Heat’s star center received the key to Miami-Dade County after competing in last month’s Olympics, where he won gold with the U.S. basketball team.
Wilson, who has recently been linked to Adebayo, attended the festivities honoring the South Florida Olympians, but Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava was oblivious and paid tribute to the two-time WNBA champion with a salute.
“She won gold in women’s basketball,” Levine Cava said of Wilson, who also took home the top prize at the Paris Games. “I guess that has something to do with Bam and the Heat being here today.”
The cameras then panned to Wilson, 28, who shrugged before smiling and laughing.
The clip circulated on social media and provoked a response from Wilson’s teammate on the Aces, Sydney Colson, who reposted the video and said, “If I send you this, rest assured I’m going to rat you out.”
Wilson, a two-time WNBA MVP and champion, later posted a strange post on X in which a woman on the Jerry Springer Show repeatedly asked “What?”
Fans supporting Wilson and 27-year-old Adebayo have had their antennas up for some time, as the two were photographed together ahead of the Olympics.
They even shook hands courtside after the U.S. women’s basketball team defeated France in the gold medal game.
The Aces, defending champions, are looking to finish the regular season strong after winning three of their last four games.
They visit the Connecticut Sun on Friday and are currently number 4 in the rankings.
Wilson, a six-time WNBA All-Star, averaged 27.5 points per game, 12.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists this season and is the favorite to take home another MVP trophy.
Adebayo will begin his eighth season, exclusively with the Heat, when Miami hosts the Orlando Magic in the season opener on Thursday, October 23.
