US 97 Blewett Pass closed due to bushfire

US Highway 97 at Blewett Pass is currently closed due to a 15-acre forest fire at the summit.

Northbound traffic will be stopped at the intersection with State Route 970, and southbound traffic will be stopped just south of Ingalls Creek Road.

The road will remain closed overnight on Wednesday. There is no estimated date for the reopening.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, the brush fire is about 15 acres in size and is burning near the top of Blewett Pass.

It’s called the Blewett Fire and multiple crews and aircraft are working to extinguish it. No evacuations are planned for the fire and its cause is under investigation.

Smoke will be visible for residents in the Kittitas Valley, Cashmere and Wenatchee areas.

Motorists should avoid the area.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
