The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) reported on Wednesday morning, September 4, that it was on site at Grand Mountain School in the Security-Widefield area.

EPSO said at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday via X (formerly known as Twitter) that officers were responding to a lockdown at the school, located near the intersection of Fontaine Boulevard and Lamprey Drive.

According to Widefield School District 3 Communications Director Samantha Briggs, the school went off a lockdown alert and the reason is currently unknown. Briggs added that the school district is following lockdown protocol, which includes the evacuation of the building by the sheriff’s office.

Once EPSO clears the building, Briggs said the district can investigate why the alarm went off.

FOX21 has reached out to the sheriff’s office for more information and also has a crew en route to the school. As more information becomes available, this article will be updated.
