Following a shooting at a high school in north-central Georgia, the building was temporarily sealed off while authorities were on site.

Police confirmed several victims on Wednesday at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, Georgia, about 65 kilometers northeast of Atlanta.

“At approximately 10:23 a.m., officers from multiple law enforcement agencies, as well as fire and rescue personnel, were dispatched to the high school for a report of a shooting,” the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

“At the time of this publication, one suspect is in custody. Casualties have been reported, however no details on the number or their condition are currently available.”

Footage from the scene shows emergency workers helping people outside the school and dozens of police officers surrounding the area. The FBI has also admitted that it is aware of the situation.

“I have deployed all available state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School and I urge all Georgians to join my family in praying for the safety of those in our classrooms, both in Barrow County and across the state,” said Governor Brian Kemp.

“We will continue to work with local, state and federal partners as we gather information and continue to respond to this situation,” the governor added.
