Apalachee High School: Massive police presence at the school, students are released

Due to a serious incident, Apalachee High School in Winder, Barrow County, had previously been placed under strict lockdown.

According to school officials, the school was placed on strict lockdown after reports of gunshots were received.

FOX 5 Atlanta has received multiple calls and messages about a possible shooting and has a crew en route to the scene.

SkyFOX 5 flies over the scene and emergency workers can be seen treating people at the school. At least two people were seen being put into helicopters and flown to hospitals for treatment.

Dozens of police officers are deployed at the school.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., the school told FOX News that the school had been evacuated and students were being released to their families. Students could be picked up from the school. Buses would also be used for students who needed to be taken home. The school said it would provide more information as soon as possible.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office says it will post updates on its Facebook page.

According to U.S. News & World Report, the school has an enrollment of approximately 1,900 students. It is one of two high schools in the Barrow County Public Schools district.

The school is located about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta.
