What happens when reality collides with the creatively cubic overworld? A Minecraft movie.

After years of talk about Minecraft is coming to the big screen, our first look at the film is finally here, featuring creepers, llamas, zombie piglins and Jack Black in the all-too-important role of Steve. The actor, who recently played a pivotal role in the big-screen adaptation of another video game franchise, will be joined in this blocky adventure by Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Coolidge, Wednesday Starring: Emma Myers and Sebastian Eugene Hansen.

Together they will Minecraft Since 2011, players have: build, run and hopefully survive the night.

Date back to Napoleon Dynamite And Nacho Libre Filmmaker Jared Hess, A Minecraft movie follows four misfits – Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks) – as they are transported to the Overworld, a wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, the band of lovable losers must get creative, rule the world, protect it from all evil and embark on a magical quest. Aided along the way by a certain pickaxe-wielding craftsman.

“Anything you can dream of here, you can do,” Black promises the crew in the trailer before introducing himself as “…Steve.”

“This guy is such a complete idiot,” Myers, as Natalie, immediately declares. But while the gang seems unimpressed by Steve’s less-than-epic introduction, the dangers of the upper world might provide some much-needed perspective.

Accompanied by the melody of the Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour,” the teaser shows the typical monsters and villains of this world, including hordes of armed Piglins and menacingly howling wolves.

The debut took place in 2011. Minecraft is an open-world sandbox game where players interact with the vast 3D world using colorful blocks. They can build a shelter and survive the night, or just let their imagination run wild. The hugely popular game, which currently has 140 million monthly users, has spawned numerous spin-offs, including Minecraft: Story Mode, Minecraft Earth, Minecraft Dungeons, And Minecraft Legends.

A Minecraft movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 4, 2025. You can watch the teaser above.
