Why Kelsey Plum was absent for the Sky Aces game

Kelsey Plum has been ruled out of Tuesday’s Chicago Sky-Las Vegas Aces game with an ankle injury, according to Callie Lawson-Freeman of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The Aces, led by A’ja Wilson, remain favorites against the Sky, especially with Chennedy Carter out as well. Las Vegas also has enough depth to continue playing at a competitive level. Still, Plum will be missed, as she is one of the WNBA’s best players.

Plum, 30, is averaging 17.6 points per game on 41.1 percent field shooting and 34.9 percent three-point shooting. She also has 2.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. It was undoubtedly a poor season by her standards.

Plum is a three-time All-Star. She still made the All-Star team in 2024, but Plum played at a much higher level overall in 2022 and 2023. Still, the Aces know how important she is to their success.

In reality, the Aces have not lived up to expectations heading into the 2024 season. They are 20-12, good for second place in the Western Conference, but Las Vegas expects to be consistently at or near the top of the WNBA.

Tuesday’s game against the Sky could be a closely fought contest, with the absence of stars like Plum and Carter sure to impact the outcome of the game.

The Aces will continue to provide updates on Kelsey Plum’s injury status.
