Jenn Tran’s journey on “The Bachelorette” ends in a dramatic finale

Jenn Tran’s journey on “The Bachelorette” did not have a happy ending.

The 26-year-old medical assistant student eventually proposed to Devin Strader in Hawaii because she wanted to “make her own choices on this trip.” She also brought a ring for him.

But during the ceremony after the final rose, Tran said that he had withdrawn after leaving Hawaii.

“It was a really tough few months,” Tran said. “We left Hawaii engaged, it was the happiest day of my life. I thought I had found the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.”

“All the promises he had made to me, about us moving somewhere together and planning the future,” she continued, saying that his efforts had been inconsistent and that he had stopped calling as often.

Tran said they had scheduled a counseling session as a happy couple in August, but the night before the session he called off the engagement.

“He had basically said he didn’t love me anymore and didn’t feel the same about me, and from the moment he proposed to me, he felt like things weren’t right,” she said.

“He made bold declarations of love,” she added. “Then suddenly the next day, nothing came of it.”

What did Jenn tell Devin?

At the ceremony after the final rose, she came face to face with her ex for the first time in a month and told him how heartbroken she was, while also confronting him on the phone about the reasons for breaking off the engagement.

She also asked him why he followed a former contestant from the last season of “The Bachelor”, Maria Georgas, on Instagram after breaking off their engagement.

“It completely invalidated our entire relationship and everything we felt for each other,” she told him.

Strader had no answer for her, except that he had told her “regrettably late” how he had felt the whole time and that he “could not excuse” following Georgas on Instagram.

But Tran told him he was “never fully committed to the effort.”

“I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you, I wanted to start a family with you and you didn’t see that,” she told him. “So don’t sit here and try to tell me how I feel. Because you’re not. You’ve had one foot out the door this whole time.”

What happened to Marcus?

The finale was also marked by Tran’s heartbreaking farewell to Marcus Shoberg, who found it difficult to talk about his feelings.

Although he told Tran “I love you” at the end, it was too late and she ultimately made up her own mind.

“I opened my heart to you every second and I think I got lost in it and maybe revealed too much along the way,” she said.

“I’m someone who’s worthy, and I know I’m worthy. I’m done with depending on my future on someone who’s afraid of losing me. I’m done with waiting for someone to be there,” she added. “I’m just done. I really had so much hope for us.”

But when they met again at the “After the Final Rose Ceremony,” they both had nothing but respect for each other.

“You still mean a lot to me,” Shoberg told Tran. “It has been an honor and a privilege to stand by your side and be part of this journey. I wouldn’t change anything or trade it for the world.”

What did Jenn learn in the end?

Although Tran’s journey did not have a happy ending, it gave her more strength.

After watching her proposal to Strader in Hawaii, Tran said she was “proud of the woman who chose a man who gave her everything she ever wanted.”

She added that she does not regret proposing to Strader, “but what happened is that that man no longer exists.”

“The truth is, I’m the same woman that I am,” she continued. “The woman that stood there was willing to fight for love, was willing to give her all to a person, was willing to raise a family, was willing to love and understand what it means to love someone fully and to push through the hard times, push through the happy times, overcome every single obstacle in life with someone, unwavering no matter what.”

“And I’m still the same person because I fought for it every second I could,” Tran said. “I know what I deserve, and I know that man – someone else – is going to be that man for me.”

Her last message to Strader was that she hoped he knew his words carried weight.

“If you make a promise, you should be able to keep that promise,” she said. “If I love something, I cherish it, I value it, and I don’t throw it away the next day.”

Tran’s season as “Bachelorette” began in July, when she was introduced to 25 suitors vying for her heart.

Ahead of her season, Tran, who is of Vietnamese descent and made history as the first Asian-American lead on the Bachelorette franchise, said she hoped to “find someone who I really feel is a 100 percent match for me and that I’m compatible with.”
