My analysis
The Washington Mystics and Dallas Wings have had surprisingly similar seasons in 2024. They have identical records, each going 4-6 in their last 10 games as they try to make their respective playoff pushes.

However, one thing separates the two teams: the result of the two encounters.

The Mystics emerged victorious in both games, winning both games in a back-to-back in Washington in June by 28 and 8 points respectively. The Mystics took advantage of Dallas’ defensive weaknesses and were able to score over 90 points in each game.

What worries Dallas is that there isn’t a single player it needs to stop to slow that rush. The Mystics had four players score at least 13 points in the first game, followed by five scoring in double figures the next night.

It’s possible that bookies believe the Mystics will be a little weakened tonight without Shakira Austin. The Washington big woman has been out since August 26 after suffering a left ankle injury. It’s the latest injury for the young talent, who has struggled to stay on the court as a professional.

Austin’s 12.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game aren’t easy to replace, but she’s only played in 11 games this season and missed both of Washington’s games against Dallas — which didn’t seem to slow the Mystics down at the time.

And it’s not like the Mystics would have been much better with Austin on the court, as they’re only 2-9 in those 11 games.

Despite Washington’s previous success against Dallas, the bookies have the Wings as clear favorites tonight. While Dallas should have a better chance of keeping up with the Mystics at home, I see no reason why they should give so many points to a team that is, at worst, their equal and perhaps even their superior.

While the first two matches were over, the bookies have pushed the total significantly higher and these teams don’t usually play to score over 175 points.

To round out the SGP, we’re betting on Ariel Atkins to score over 14.5 points tonight. Atkins has hit that total in four of his last five games overall and leads the Mystics with a yearly average of 15.3 points per game.
