Brian Kelly talks about the heated discussion after the USC loss: “I want these guys to win”

After LSU27-20 loss to No. 23 USC on Sunday, Tigers head coach Brian Kelly made headlines when he slammed his fist on the table in frustration during the post-game press conference. During an appearance on “The Paul Finebaum Show,” Kelly explained his behavior during the heated moment.

“The emotions of the game came to the fore,” said Kelly. “The frustration and anger that these kids aren’t getting a chance because they’re working so hard to break through and they haven’t been able to. That’s basically what it was about.”

After Kelly’s brief explanation, Finebaum poked fun at the 62-year-old head coach, pointing out that Kelly’s hand was not in a cast, so he could assume it wasn’t broken. To his credit, Kelly played along with Finebaum and made light of the incident.

“Look, I’m not strong enough to generate enough momentum to break a pane of glass,” Kelly said. “All I’m telling you is that I want these kids to win. We put our heart and soul into it and I know how hard they work. I don’t want them to be perceived as kids who don’t care. It’s so important to them.”
