1 dead in three-car crash in southwest Miami-Dade; police search for hit-and-run driver – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver after a three-car crash in southwest Miami-Dade left one person dead.

The accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Monday in the area of 43rd Avenue and Southwest Eighth Street.

“This is a hit-and-run accident resulting in death,” a dispatcher said over Broadcastify’s police radio.

7News cameras filmed several police officers on scene and a car that was totaled.

After the crash, two cars ended up in a Walgreens parking lot. It also appeared that one of the cars knocked over some street signs and a metal light pole. Debris was scattered throughout the Walgreens parking lot and streets.

The Miami-Dade Police Department turned the investigation over to the City of Miami because the original accident occurred within the City of Miami’s jurisdiction.

According to Miami City Police, the victim was a 29-year-old man who was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the people involved in the accident was taken to the hospital but has since been released.

The identity of the deceased was not disclosed.

The accident sent shockwaves through the community as onlookers watched the cleanup effort begin.

One mother used the tragedy as a teaching moment.

“I came here to see this, not out of curiosity, but to make my son, who will soon be driving, more aware,” said Kenya Reyes. “Because I see a lot of crazy drivers and they are not aware of the danger they pose to others. They don’t think about anyone else, not themselves or their families.”

Miami police said the third driver fled on foot.

He was described as a white Latino male, approximately 6′ tall with a clean-shaven face. The suspect was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and unknown color pants. He was last seen running west from the scene of the crash.

The coroner has now removed the body from the scene of the accident and the crash site has been cleared by rescue workers.

If you have any information about this crime, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
