Three development opportunities to consider

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – We have three developing possibilities in mind this week. Fortunately, none of these systems pose a threat to the Carolinas.

In case you missed it, Jamie and Andrew talked about where we are in hurricane season and what to expect in the next two months.

Caribbean Sea

A tropical wave is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms over Hispaniola and parts of the central Caribbean. This system is expected to move westward, and when it reaches the western Caribbean and southwestern Gulf of Mexico later this week or over the weekend, a tropical depression could form. The probability of formation is 40%.

Eastern Tropical Atlantic

A tropical wave over the far eastern Atlantic Ocean is producing scattered showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions are expected to become somewhat more favorable for development, and a tropical depression may form later this week as the disturbance slowly moves west-northwestward or northwestward across the eastern tropical Atlantic Ocean. This system could produce locally heavy rains and gusty winds over parts of Cape Verde in a day or two. The probability of development is 40%.

Central Tropical Atlantic

Another tropical wave about halfway between the west coast of Africa and the Lesser Antilles is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. As the system moves west-northwestward, slow development is possible over the next few days. However, by the end of the week, environmental conditions are expected to become unfavorable for further development. The probability of development is 10%.
