Joey Chestnut defeated Takeru Kobayashi in the Netflix Hot Dog Eating Contest in Las Vegas, Nevada on Monday.

Chestnut and Kobayashi, two of the world’s most famous competitive eaters, competed in a 10-minute hot dog eating contest on Labor Day. Chestnut ate 83 hot dogs and buns, beating his own world record of 76 he set in 2021. Kobayashi, meanwhile, ate 66 hot dogs.

The live event, titled “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef,” took place at the Hyper X Arena at the Luxor in Las Vegas. Actor Rob Riggle and former WWE star Nikki Garcia hosted the event, which was streamed live on Netflix.

The rules of the contest stated that Chestnut and Kobayashi were not allowed to dip or pour water on the hot dogs and buns, that they were not allowed to separate the hot dogs from the buns, and that after the 10-minute timer expired, they had 30 seconds to finish what was left in their mouths.

Chestnut won the grand prize of $100,000 and received a custom-made championship belt made by WWE and presented to him by professional wrestler Rey Mysterio.

The last time Chestnut and Kobayashi faced each other was in 2009, when Chestnut emerged victorious. That year, Kobayashi announced his retirement but said he would return to face Chestnut.

Chestnut is a 16-time winner of Nathan’s annual Fourth of July contest, winning the last eight years in a row. This year, Chestnut was disqualified from the legendary Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island from its annual competition after signing a deal with vegan hot dog brand Impossible Foods.

Kobayashi is a six-time Nathan’s champion, winning six years in a row in the early 2000s. Chestnut first defeated Kobayashi in 2007, and the two had a bitter rivalry in the mid-2000s.
