Who are the most successful writers in film history?

It seems like every second film these days is a book adaptation, Colleen Hoover eagerly awaited It ends with us to the latest status in The Hunger Games Franchise.

Books and novels provide a rich and complex world for filmmakers to explore, so they have always been excellent sources for film adaptations. And while hundreds of books have been made into films, some authors have been more successful than others.

In honor of Book Lovers Day (9 August)a team of experts at WordFinderX analyzed the critical and box office performance of 473 authors and 10,164 adaptations to find out which film adaptations were done right – and made their authors the most successful authors in film history.

Here are some of their key findings:

  • Walter Tevis (Sharks of the big city, The man who fell from the sky) the author is with the most praised Film adaptations with an average rating of 82.7 on Metacritic.
  • J.R.R. Tolkien (The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings) is the best box office hits of all deceased authorsAdaptations of his films grossed an average of $851,214,668 at the box office.
  • JK Rowling (Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts) is the most lucrative author of allwith adaptations of her books grossing $9,758,172,283 (US$9.76 billion).
  • William Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet, hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream) is the author whose Adaptations have won the most Oscars (23).

You will notice Top 20 is dominated by authors who are no longer with us. Drive my car Author Haruki Murakami and How to train your dragonCressida Cowell are the only living authors on this list, while the late Walter Tevis and James M. Cain are vying for the top spot.

You probably know many of the Authors with the highest earningsbecause their names are as well known as their creations: James Bond, Katniss, Bella and Edward and Frodo.
