Residents and road users must accept another bottleneck in the traffic structure on the Sonnenstein in Pirna. The city is currently having Struppener Straße renovated, and now another construction site is being added. The Pirna public utility company, in cooperation with the city, will begin an extensive project in the Varkausring area on September 2nd. According to the company, the work will affect the section of the one-way street in front of the children’s facilities in the Varkausring area 106 to 109.

The municipal utility company is joining a construction project by the city, which is renovating the road surface and expanding the sidewalk in this area. The municipal utility company is using this to renew the combined sewer system built in the 1960s, including the connecting sewers. According to the utility company, the sewer is in a very poor structural condition. It was found that severe cracks and shards have formed, pipe connections are leaky and shifted, and pipes have also become deformed. In some sections, the sewer pipe is no longer stable.

The construction project begins with the construction of the sewer, which will involve laying 245 meters of sewer and six connecting sewers. According to the municipal utility company, the work is expected to last until December of this year.

The affected section of road will be completely closed for the entire construction period. Pedestrians will, however, still be able to pass through the area. Access to the children’s facilities will be made available to transport services and employees – depending on the progress of the construction work. According to the municipal utility company, access for emergency vehicles and the fire service will be guaranteed in any case.
