This Apple TV Plus film starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney is one of my most eagerly awaited new releases this year – and there’s already a sequel
Ever since the first trailer for Wolfs, I’ve been convinced that this Apple TV Plus movie is right up my alley. And after a new update, I’m even more excited about it.
Not to be confused with the bad werewolf flick “Wolves” from 2014, this new action comedy starring Jon Watts reunites Brad Pitt and George Clooney for the seventh time as a pair of lonely “fixers” who must reluctantly work together on a specific job.
The pair have already proven they work well together on screen – “Ocean’s 11” – and in the little footage we’ve seen so far, our two stars seem to mesh just as well as before. This looks like it could be a solid action movie, one that looks to me like a classier version of Pitt’s previous action-packed crowd-pleaser, “Bullet Train.”
The film was already the subject of a bidding war between studios a few years ago, but now there’s a new update that almost convinces me that “Wolfs” will be a winner: Deadline has confirmed that Apple has inked a deal with Watts, who will write and direct. And produce a sequel for Clooney and Pitt a month before release.
This deal is a sign that there is at least some confidence that Wolfs will be a great movie, right? That may sound optimistic, especially considering we’ve only seen a few minutes so far, but I can’t help but feel that I’m going to really enjoy Wolfs when it hits theaters next month.
And since Apple’s original edition generally was pretty strong – check out “Killers of the Flower Moon”, “Cha Cha Real Smooth” and “Fancy Dance” for example – I hope my optimism is not misplaced!
What is “Wolfs” about?
Watch on
Apple’s official synopsis for the film reads: “Global stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt team up for the action comedy ‘Wolfs.’ Clooney plays a professional fixer who is hired to cover up a high-profile crime. But when a second fixer (Pitt) shows up and the two ‘lone wolves’ are forced to work together, their night spirals out of control in ways neither of them expected.”
In the official trailer, we see that in “Wolfs,” the two are drawn into the drug trade and risk being killed for the things they discover during that one restless night.
In addition to Clooney and Pitt, the film also stars Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, Poorna Jagannathan, Richard King and Zlatko Burić.
So when is “Wolfs” coming out?
“Wolfs” will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in early September 2024.
Thankfully, we don’t have to wait long to see the film for ourselves. The same report from Deadline revealed that Wolfs will hit theaters in limited quantities on September 20. Then, just a week later, on Friday, September 27, the film will be available to stream on Apple TV Plus.
