Giselle Mather: Rugby Director of Trailfinders Women leaves the club

Giselle Mather, director of rugby for Trailfinders women’s team, has left the club by mutual consent due to “differences of views”.

The former England international and world champion played a key role in the club securing a place in the Premiership Women’s Rugby last season and building a new squad after taking office in July 2022.

In their first season in the top division in 2023–24, the Trailfinders finished sixth.

“I am immensely proud to have laid the foundation for the future success of Trailfinders Women,” Mather said on the club’s website. , external

“Building an elite Premier League team from nothing has been an incredible project and an honour to lead.

“Due to different philosophies for our second season, we have mutually decided to go our separate ways. I would like to acknowledge what a privilege it has been to work with the club’s amazing and talented athletes and dedicated staff.”

Trailfinders chief executive Ben Ward thanked Mather, who was previously Wasps’ director of rugby twice, for “her hard work for Trailfinders Women and what she has achieved”.

“Our style of rugby matches the Trailfinders style and it was fun to watch,” he added. “She has made her mark in the history books with Ealing Trailfinders and Trailfinders Women. We wish Giselle all the best for the future.”

Trailfinders begin their season away to Saracens on Saturday 5th October.
