Lancers unveil 2024-25 non-conference women’s basketball team roster

FARMVILLE, Virginia — The Longwood women’s basketball team will play half of its 14 non-league games in the 2024-25 season at home at the Joan Perry Brock Center, head coach said Erika Lang-Montgomery was announced today.

Longwood will also host its first regular season tournament since 2010-11 when South Carolina State, McNeese State and William & Mary come to Farmville for the Shirley Duncan Classic Dec. 6-8.

The Lancers will play two schools that advanced to the postseason last season — Norfolk State (Nov. 7) and Florida (Dec. 15) — both on the road. The trip to Gainesville will be the third-ever meeting with the Gators and the first under the direction of Lang-Montgomery, who played at Florida from 1988-92 and was an assistant coach there from 2019-2021.

“We are looking forward to an exciting non-conference schedule that will prepare us for conference play,” said Lang-Montgomery, who is entering her third season at Longwood. “Personally, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to my alma mater, the University of Florida, with my team in December.”

Longwood opens the season on November 4 at JPB against Lincoln University of Pennsylvania before traveling to Norfolk three days later to face the MEAC champions (27-4) Spartans for the second time in two seasons.

Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, is in town on Nov. 10 as part of Longwood’s homecoming festivities before Longwood embarks on a three-game tour of Washington DC, Statesboro, Georgia and Charlotte to face American, Georgia Southern and Queens. The first two games of the trip, on Nov. 13 and 16, are rematches of a two-game series carried over from last season.

The Lancers host Navy on Nov. 23 when the series resumes for the first time since the 1990-91 season. Elon comes to Farmville on Nov. 26 before Longwood hosts South Carolina State, McNeese State and William & Mary in its multi-team event.

After facing the Gators, Longwood will travel to Babson Park, Florida to compete in the Webber International on December 18.

The Lancers finish their non-league schedule at UNCW on Dec. 29. Longwood won its last meeting with the Seahawks 59-58 on Nov. 13, 2019 at Willett Hall.

The Big South Conference schedule will be announced at a later date. All dates and times are subject to change.
