Tech Mahindra and Northeastern University sign agreement to research and develop 6G, Open RAN equipment and ET Telecom

NEW DELHI: Indian IT and consulting company Tech Mahindra has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Northeastern University to research, develop and test sixth generation (6G) and Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) devices.

Tech Mahindra and Northeastern University will develop Open RAN and 6G solutions, focusing on large-scale testing and certification of the Open RAN ecosystem.

The joint effort will leverage Tech Mahindra’s telecommunications expertise and Northeastern University’s Open6G Open Testing and Integration Center (OTIC) to provide comprehensive testing services for conformance, interoperability, performance and functionality of Open RAN devices.

The companies will also enable end-to-end testing in virtual and real environments, using solutions such as digital twin technology to accurately replicate real-world conditions.

“By combining our expertise, we will create new technologies focused on testing and verification, enabling our customers to scale rapidly. Together, we will advance Open RAN and 6G, turn ideas into reality and deliver exceptional value,” said Manish Mangal, Chief Technology Officer, Telecom & Global Business Head, Network Services, Tech Mahindra.

“We are very excited about the partnership between the Open6G R&D Center of the Northeastern Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things and Tech Mahindra. This collaboration is designed to expand the partnership portfolio of both organizations and promises significant advances in research and development, testing and systems integration for Open RAN,” said Tommaso Melodia, director of the Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things (WIoT) and William L. Smith Professor at Northeastern University.
