BREVARD COUNTY •, FLORIDA – Florida Tech men’s rowers Sandro Gardella and Arnedas Kelmelis competed for their respective home countries last weekend at the 2024 World Rowing U23 Championships in St. Catharines, Canada.

Gardella, who hails from La Punta, Callao, Peru, finished third in the B final of the men’s lightweight singles with a time of 7:08.30. This result places Gardella ninth in the world rankings.

Kelmelis, competing for his native Lithuania, competed in the quadruple sculls and finished fifth in the B final with a time of 5:54.32. With fifth place, Kelmelis and his teammates finished 11th in the world rankings.

“It’s incredible to see our guys out there competing on a global level,” said Adam Thorstad, head coach of Florida Tech’s men’s rowing team. “Their hard work and dedication this summer will help us be successful next season.”

Kelmelis will continue to compete internationally at the 2024 European U23 Championships, scheduled to take place on September 7 and 8 in Edirne, Turkey.

The Panthers men’s rowing team will begin its 2024–25 season October 18-20 with the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Massachusetts.
