Homework Hotline is a free tutoring service for students and guardians

JACKSON, Tennessee – Students across the state have been in school for nearly a month now, meaning tests and homework are their new normal.

The homework hotline offers students from kindergarten to high school free support in all subjects.

“We operate statewide and offer our services to all students across the state, including Jackson and West Tennessee. Regardless of the type of school setting, that includes homeschooling, public schools, private schools and of course charter schools,” says Dr. Shanique Nixon, executive director of the Homework Hotline.

The Homework Hotline offers two types of support: one for on-demand homework help and one for tutoring.

“If you are in the middle of an assignment or have an assignment at school and knew you were unsure when you received it, you can call starting at 4:00 a.m. Central Standard Time and one of our tutors will help you,” she adds.

These tutors help not only the students but also the parents.
They also offer assistance to those who do not speak English, their service offers 16 different languages.

“Our tutors are all licensed teachers in the state of Tennessee. They have passed an additional exam and of course they have all undergone a background check and this is for the safety of our students.”

Tutors are available every evening to help students in all subjects.

If a homework assignment is confusing, students can send it to their tutor.

“We have a line where they can send their pictures. Let’s say they’re working on a worksheet or their teacher gives them a piece of paper and sends it home and they say, I need help with this and I don’t know what this is. They can send us, our teachers, a picture of it and our teachers can review it and work directly with them on that worksheet and that paper,” Nixon explains.

Their overarching goal is to provide assistance to those in need.

“Traditionally, we reach out to everyone, everyone gets a call back, and we will never tell a student to stop calling us. We are here to help across Tennessee,” Nixon says.

They are currently looking for additional tutors who are licensed to teach in the state of Tennessee.
