Trucking Cares Foundation donates $40,000 to support truck driver training

Washington— The Trucking Cares Foundation, the charitable arm of the trucking industry, donated $40,000 to the Next Generation in Trucking Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing and training the next generation of professionals in the trucking industry.

The Trucking Cares Foundation grant will be used to develop and integrate TruckFit into the CDL training curricula the organization offers in high schools, community/technical colleges and private schools across North America. This fitness course teaches new drivers how to prioritize their physical and mental health while on the road.

“The Next Generation in Trucking Foundation provides individuals with skills that open up new opportunities for more young people who want to become economically independent in the transportation industry,” said Phil Byrd, Chairman of the Trucking Cares Foundation. “With this donation, the Trucking Cares Foundation aims to support the noble mission of this organization and promote a healthy and active lifestyle so that new drivers can sustain this rewarding career long-term.”

“Because long-term driver health is the cornerstone of the Next Generation in Trucking curriculum, we are excited to offer the TruckFit curriculum to schools,” said Dave Dein, CDL Coordinator, California CTE Teacher of the Year and co-founder of the Next Generation in Trucking Association. “The TruckFit program is essential to ensure students have the knowledge and practical application to enter the workforce with their physical and mental health at the forefront. We are delighted to be able to work with the Trucking Cares Foundation in partnership with Dr. Mark Manera of Offshift, a digital health company for the transportation sector, to ensure graduates have long and healthy careers in the transportation industry.”

“Driver health is a top priority when training the next generation of professional drivers,” said Lindsey Trent, president and co-founder of the Next Generation in Trucking Association. “By partnering with the Trucking Cares Foundation, we can now make this a reality and provide student drivers with practical ways to stay healthy on the road before they begin their careers.”

The Next Generation in Trucking Foundation complements the work of the Next Generation in Trucking Association, a nonprofit industry association dedicated to promoting the trucking industry as a positive career field, developing and partnering with career training (CTE) programs at secondary and post-secondary educational institutions, and promoting the education of young people in the trucking industry by connecting them with training and employment opportunities. The Foundation supports educational opportunities – particularly for underserved communities – through scholarships, curriculum design, school programs, learning opportunities, and educational resources for students, schools, teachers, and administrators.

The Trucking Cares Foundation is the charitable arm of the transportation industry and focuses on several core areas, including humanitarian and disaster relief, eradicating human trafficking, leadership development, strengthening the industry’s relationships with law enforcement, the military and veterans organizations, and safety and research opportunities.
