Truck trapped in power cable damages house, homeowner needs help

BATON ROUGE — A truck has crashed into a power line that supplies electricity to a man’s home. Eric Washington says the truck shouldn’t have been on his street in the first place, but now he’s having trouble figuring out who’s responsible for the hole in the side of his house.

“I was in my bed minding my own business when it came through here and ripped the pole out,” Washington said.

It happened around 5:20 a.m. on Friday. Washington ran outside in the dark and found the truck down the street from his house and the cable still coiled in the cab. He took photos of the truck and called police to file a report.

The damage is done. There is a large hole in the side of Washington’s house and another in the side of the roof. He has no power.

The large truck turned from Fairfields Avenue onto Harelson Street. The logo of Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits was emblazoned on the side of the truck. Washington says over the past two years, large trucks have turned onto his small street, using it as a shortcut to the stores along North Foster Drive.

“We can’t seem to find anyone to talk to them and stop them from coming through here,” he said.

Washington is desperately looking for answers. In his opinion, the truck should not have driven down his street.

“It seems they don’t care,” he said.

Washington is becoming more frustrated by the day. He cannot afford to repair the damage right now and does not want to be left with the bill.

Entergy confirms its line was involved in this incident and is investigating the incident. On Wednesday, 2 On Your Side spoke with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, who were unaware of the incident but received the information.
