Another great Colorado cinema closes for good

Film fans in Colorado are breathing a sigh of relief as another place to “see a movie” has announced its closure.

One has to wonder what society will look like in 20 years if the trend of cinema closures continues. What happened to the joy of sharing a great film with a crowd of others?

In small towns, as in this case, the losses are even greater.

Cinema in Estes Park closes

In the spring of 2024, the Reel Mountain cinema in Estes Park announced that it was in trouble. They launched a subscription program and stated that this was their “last attempt” to save the cinema.

They had announced that they would close if things didn’t improve by the end of August 2024. Ultimately, things didn’t get “better enough” by the deadline, and Reel Mountain announced its permanent closure.

The Reel Mountain closure comes shortly after several other closures, possibly as late as 2024: The Esquire and Che Artiste, both in Denver, have closed, just another sign that there are fewer places to gather and watch a great film.
