Garbage customers in Conway, Missouri, upset about poor service

CONWAY, Mo. (KY3) – For some Conway households, it seems to be a normal occurrence to have trash piling up on the side of the road, or so say some CARDS recycling customers.

As KY3 previously reported, some CARDS customers say their trash goes uncollected for weeks or even months and they’re fed up.

“I just want them to pick up the trash that they didn’t pick up for the money we paid,” said Keith Johnson, a CARDS customer. “They were here a couple of weeks ago, and we kept calling and saying, oh yeah, we’ll send someone out here. And maybe that happens every now and then. But lately we’ve been calling and they just don’t send anyone out.”

CARDS Recycling Services bought several businesses in the Oarks in late 2023. In Johnson’s case, that was Pedersen Trash Services. Johnson said he initially had no complaints about CARDS. The trash was picked up. But that soon changed.

“For a while we didn’t really have any problems,” Johnson said. “Then when they switched to quarterly billing, things went downhill really quickly.”

Johnson said he will be paid for garbage collection through September. He said he called CARDS headquarters to inquire about his service and filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in Arkansas, since that’s where CARDS Recycling is based.

“I got an email from them yesterday saying the case was closed because there was no response from CARDS to the Better Business Bureau or a response to me,” Johnson said. “They’ve closed the case until they hear from someone else. But they’ll also note in their file that they didn’t respond. So anyone who looks up CARDS will see that they are, in fact, not responding.”

Johnson said he will switch to a different garbage disposal company, something many of his neighbors have already done. His story is not an isolated one, however. Others in Conway say their garbage has not been picked up in some time.

“I don’t think I really had a problem with the quarterly billing because before Pedersen I had another garbage service and they billed quarterly,” said Helen Feryo. “I was not given any explanation as to why the service was changed. But initially they were very, very good.”

Feryo says her garbage hasn’t been picked up in two weeks. While she admits she doesn’t have much garbage that needs to be picked up, she still wants to use the services she paid for. Feryo also said that with the cooler season approaching, she wants to clean out her garage so she can park her car in it. The garbage has to go somewhere.

Feryo said she was happy with CARDS when they took over Pedersen. She said she called the main office three times and customer service was friendly each time. However, when she called to have her garbage picked up, no one could tell her why it wasn’t happening.

KY3 contacted CARDS Recycling Services’ corporate office and left messages but received no response.
