Forecasts for Labor Day weekend show temperatures closer to normal in the Milwaukee area. Although some storms are forecast for Thursday night, calm is expected for the rest of the weekend.

A double whammy of record-breaking heat and severe thunderstorms has hit Milwaukee-area residents this week, but meteorologists predict things could ease by the weekend.

Earlier this week, Milwaukee recorded highs of 94 degrees, with temperatures feeling more like 100 degrees according to the heat index. Aside from the high temperatures in the region, there was also high humidity, increasing the risk of thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, high temperatures on Wednesday are expected to be as low as 74 degrees in the city of Milwaukee and as high as 78 degrees in other areas outside the city.

Wednesday’s temperature will be close to the late August average high of 79 degrees.

Nake Falkinham, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, spoke about the conditions of the last few days.

“The heat and humidity throughout the region have made it vulnerable to severe weather,” he said.

Storms cause damage and accidents in Milwaukee

About 1.4 inches of rain fell in Milwaukee between Tuesday and Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Winds in the region caused tree limbs to be thrown onto power lines, causing power outages in high temperatures.

In one area the winds were so strong that a tree fell onto the road and almost hit a cyclist.

In the video you can see how the wind whirls the trees back and forth until one falls onto the road and also tears down a power line.

A cyclist on the road does not manage to stop in time and falls right into the middle of the fallen wood.

A pedestrian walking on the sidewalk comes to the cyclist’s aid.

Temperatures and thunderstorms will calm down towards the end of the week

Less extreme temperatures and weather conditions are expected towards the end of the week and into Labor Day weekend.

The National Weather Service forecasts mild temperatures for the rest of the week, with highs between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected during the night from Thursday to Friday.

The Labor Day weekend is also forecast to be mostly clear and dry, with highs of around 27 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

On Labor Day itself, a sunny and rain-free day is expected with cool highs of around 21 degrees.
