Work on Main Street in Glastonbury will last until October

GLASTONBURY, CT — Glastonbury’s Main Street reconstruction project is moving forward as September approaches.

City officials said work will continue on the west side of the street in the coming weeks, progressing from north to south. Currently, curbs are being re-laid in front of the Welles Turner Memorial Library to ultimately create wider, “bike-friendly” shoulders while maintaining existing curbside parking.

Brick work will then be carried out on the “snow board” in the same area and then continue southwards until the entire undulating brick area is replaced with a “brick surfaced structure”, officials said.

“This ensures durability and resists the development of elevation differences,” city officials said.

During the work, portions of the sidewalk will be temporarily closed. Work crews will coordinate the project to keep the sidewalk across the street open as much as possible for “pedestrian convenience,” city officials said.

The project is expected to last until early October.

Milling is expected to begin the week of Sept. 22, and subsequent paving is expected to begin immediately following the week of Sept. 29, city officials said. Milling and paving work will be limited to overnight hours, and detours will be put in place if necessary, city officials said.

“As always, this schedule is subject to change based on weather and other factors,” officials said. “To ensure everyone’s safety, please drive slowly and carefully through the construction zone.”
