Armie Hammer confirmed that his circumstances are forcing him to downsize. In a new video on his Instagram, the actor explained that he is selling his beloved 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali pickup truck because he can no longer afford the gas.
“I’ve been back in LA for a couple of weeks now, this is my truck,” Hammer said in the clip. “I bought it for myself as a Christmas present in 2017. I’ve loved this truck very much and have taken it camping and across the country and on long road trips several times, and I took it to CarMax for one final road trip.”
He added that the video was “not an advertisement for CarMax,” and instead confirmed that he had decided to sell the truck. “Since I got back to LA, I’ve put $400 or $500 worth of gas in it, and I can’t afford it,” Hammer said. “I can’t afford the gas anymore.”
He recalled the great memories he had with the truck, including bringing his kids home from the hospital. “But you know what? That’s OK,” he continued. “I have a new car. It’s tiny. It’s a hybrid. I’ll probably spend about $10 a month on gas, and that’s it. Here’s to a fresh start. Tomorrow is my birthday.”
The actor added that he will “start his birthday in a new car, in a new apartment, in a new life in Los Angeles.”
After disappearing from public view in 2021 following allegations of cannibalism and sexual abuse and rape by several women, Hammer recently resurfaced in Los Angeles. In June, he spoke about the allegations at the Painful lessons Podcast hosted by his “close friend” Tyler Ramsey.
“There were things that people said about me that just felt so weird. Now I can look at it with some distance and perspective and say, ‘That’s hilarious.’ People called me a cannibal and everyone believed them,” Hammer said. “They said, ‘Yep, that guy ate people.’ You just think, ‘What? What are you talking about? Do you know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people. How am I supposed to be a cannibal?’ It was bizarre.”
During the podcast, he added: “What I will say about that, despite the inconsistencies, despite what people have said, whatever has happened – I’m at a point in my life now where I’m grateful for every single bit of it. I’m actually at a point now where I’m really grateful for it, because in my life before all of this happened to me, I didn’t feel good. I never felt satisfied. I never had enough, I was never at a point where I was happy with myself, where I had self-esteem. I never knew how to give myself love. I never knew how to give myself appreciation.”
Last month, Hammer appeared on Piers Morgan uncensoredin which he denied ever having “eaten human flesh.” “Do you know what you have to do to be a cannibal?” he said to Morgan. “You have to have actually eaten somebody.”
Regarding the allegations of sexual assault, he noted: “Every one of these conversations that we had within this relationship doesn’t look so good when you take it out of that context and bring it out into the open. You know, different people have different sexual fantasies. And there is a very broad spectrum of sexuality, and people are allowed to live out their own sexuality in a way that suits them and their actions.”
