August 28, 2024, 03:05

The Oregon State University Extension Service of Douglas County is offering a day of classes on forestry and natural resource topics on Saturday, September 28 from 8:40 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

An extension notice said the extensive educational event will be held at Umpqua Community College’s Health, Nursing and Science Center. This is the last week to register for courses before prices increase, so don’t delay and secure the early bird rate.

Tree School Umpqua offers 24 courses on a variety of topics of interest to family forest owners, forest and natural resource professionals, loggers, arborists, teachers and the general public. Many courses qualify for continuing education credits

by a number of professional associations.

Class topics include forest insects and diseases, forest pollinators, forest management in a changing climate, fire, forest management planning, wildlife, tree and shrub identification, log sales, and more.

All participants must register in advance. Registration is $70 if done by August 31 and $90 if done in person between September 1 and 13. Classes fill up quickly and walk-ins are not allowed on the day of the event. Participants can attend up to four classes, enjoy lunch and visit with exhibitors.
