SHREVEPORT, Louisiana (KSLA) – Caddo Parish officials recently took two juveniles into custody for calling 911 about a shooting threat at a local school.

Community leaders say now is the time for parents to talk to their children about the severity of these threats.

Fortunately, there was no shooting at Keithville Elementary/Middle.

KSLA News 12 spoke with Volunteers for Youth Justice about how families can help prevent these calls.

Executive director Kelli Todd says it’s important to remind children that these crimes, even if committed in jest, have serious and lasting consequences.

“Maybe they thought what they were saying was a joke or that it wasn’t going to go where it did, but they have to take these threats very seriously because these are children from our community at these schools. They have to take this seriously in case something happens like it has happened in other places around the country.”

Charges like these can lead to probation and rehabilitation.

The two teenagers who made the alarming call now face charges of terrorism.
