MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Multiple vehicles were involved in an accident Tuesday morning after a semi-truck failed to stop in time and crashed into stopped traffic in Madera County, according to the CHP.

Officers said the tractor-trailer was approaching stopped traffic on Highway 41 northbound at the Avenue 12 traffic light.

At that point, officials said, the 57-year-old driver was unable to stop in time and struck the white Honda Accord driven by a 21-year-old Madera man, setting off a chain reaction crash that also involved other vehicles.

The force of the impact sent the Honda flying into a Volkswagen driven by a 39-year-old Fresno woman, who then slammed her car into the Nissan driven by a 30-year-old Italian woman. The impact sent the Nissan into the rear of a Chevy truck driven by a 72-year-old Fresno man. The Chevy truck then slammed forward into the rear of a Lexus driven by a 20-year-old Fresno man.

At the time of the accident, there was no one in the back seat of the white Honda. According to police, only the driver was in the vehicle.

According to officials, four people were taken to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries.

Officials said the driver of the white Honda may have suffered a concussion.

According to the CHP, the area of ​​Highway 41 northbound south of Avenue 12 has now been cleared and traffic is returning to normal.
