A woman refuses to attend her sister’s wedding after being asked to give up her place at the table of honor for the bride’s dog.

The 28-year-old woman claims her 32-year-old sister asked her to give up her seat at the reception’s head table to the dog. The woman, who is her sister’s maid of honor, said she felt disrespected after being asked to sit at a different table with the bridesmaids instead of the bride and groom.

The woman has not spoken to her sister since she was asked to give up her seat at the wedding for a dog. She said she was unsure about going to the wedding.

She said: “I (28, female) have a sister, Sarah (32, female), who is getting married in a few weeks. We have always been close but things have been strained between us recently.

“Sarah is one of those people who adores her dog Luna. Don’t get me wrong, I love animals too, but Sarah treats Luna like her own child. That’s all fine, but it’s starting to affect her relationships with real people.

“Sarah is having a small, intimate wedding with about 30 guests. I was thrilled when she asked me to be her maid of honour. We spent months planning and making sure everything was perfect. But then, about two weeks ago, Sarah dropped a bombshell.

“She told me she wanted to give Luna a special role in the wedding, which I thought was sweet. However, she then asked me if it would be okay for me to give up my seat at the head table so Luna could sit next to her during the reception.”

She added on Reddit: “At first I thought she was joking. But when I realized she was serious, I was shocked. I asked her why Luna couldn’t sit on the floor or at another table, but Sarah insisted that Luna had to sit right next to her because she gets nervous in crowds. She even said I could sit with the other bridesmaids or find a seat anywhere else in the room.

“I told her I didn’t like it. I was looking forward to being there for her big day, but it really hurts me to be asked to give up my apartment for a dog. I’m her sister and her maid of honor and I just think it’s disrespectful to treat me like a supporting character.”

She said: “Sarah was upset and said I was being unreasonable. She said Luna was like her baby and I should understand how important it was for her to feel comfortable. When I told her that I might not come to the wedding if she insisted, she accused me of trying to sabotage her day and said that if I really loved her I would do this one small thing for her.

“I haven’t spoken to her since our fight and I’m wondering if I’m the one being selfish here. My mom says I should just go along with it to keep the peace, but my friends say Sarah is misbehaving.”

Social media users agreed that the bride’s dog should not sit at the table of honor.

One Reddit user commented, “Why should the maid of honor give up her seat? Just ask for an extra chair if that’s what you really want.”

“The venues can make tables of any size to suit different sized wedding parties. There is no set size table that only fits a certain number of people (or people and a dog).”

Another added: “I love dogs at events like weddings, but I’ve never seen one sitting at a table during dinner. And while that’s cute in theory, the dog would probably prefer a bed on the floor with all the dropped food.”
