KHP arrests truck driver for drunk driving on I-70 in Wyandotte County

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Kansas Highway Patrol arrested a drunk truck driver on Interstate 70 in northeast Kansas Thursday afternoon. The KHP said the truck driver’s blood alcohol level was 0.191, measured by a breathalyzer, more than double the legal driving limit and nearly five times the limit for a driver operating a commercial vehicle (driving with a CDL license).

KHP said on social media that another driver noticed the truck swerving on the I-70 Turnpike. The driver called 911 and said the truck driver left the roadway, struck a road sign and continued driving.

The driver initially failed to stop when Trooper Bachert attempted to pull the truck driver over, and when the truck driver stopped, he was in the right lane. This happened last Thursday, August 22, near Bonner Springs in Wyandotte County. Highway patrol said the truck was traveling in the westbound lane near mile marker 224.

Trooper Bachert then investigated the truck driver for driving under the influence of alcohol and subsequently arrested him for drunk driving.

KHP said if you notice another car driving dangerously, call KHP dispatch at *47, or if you are on the Turnpike, dial *582.
