Is the last sale on winter sports equipment in the shops already over?

The days of the old SNIAGRAB and Powder Daze seem to be over. The one-time annual sales event where winter sports retailers sold their previous season’s apparel and gear has fallen by the wayside. Technology, the reality of tighter inventory and a changing weather pattern are forcing retailers to ramp up sales and get rid of old merchandise in favor of a larger window and online sales.

If this is the case across all retail during the back-to-school and holiday seasons, why not winter sports retailers?

Christy Sports, one of the leading outdoor retailers in the U.S., has launched a new summer sale online and in most stores in Colorado, Utah, Montana and Washington. The retailer is offering deep discounts on summer seasonal merchandise and previous year’s winter merchandise.

“This exciting evolution of the annual Christy Sports Powder Daze event expands its reach and accessibility, offering incredible offerings to a wide audience,” Christy Sports said in a press release.

In the past, the retailer was known for offering deep discounts on last season’s winter gear at just five stores. The evolution of Powder Daze has now resulted in a summer sale at 35 stores in metropolitan areas and resort towns, taking place from now until September 6, 2024.

Is the last sale on winter sports equipment in the shops already over?“The event now offers consumers the opportunity to enjoy huge discounts of up to 50 percent on a wide range of summer products including Patio furniture, mountain sports clothing and accessories, bicycles and bicycle accessories, water sports and winter equipment, clothing and accessories from the previous year,” the retailer said.

Christy Sports reported that this evolution is being driven by consumer feedback and changing shopping behavior as the retailer continues to focus on putting customers’ needs first and streamlining operations.

“The outdoor industry is constantly evolving, making it increasingly important to meet consumers where they are,” said Pete LaBore, CEO of Christy Sports. “For decades, ski resort consumers were trained to expect huge sales events with last season’s gear discounted in just a few stores over Labor Day weekend. That has changed dramatically in recent years as consumers shop more on demand and seek the best prices on items that help them enjoy the outdoors. immediately. By creating a series of events online and in-store, we can meet demand during the season and sell current merchandise rather than holding onto stock for next year.”

While consumers nationwide will be able to compare Powder Daze prices on Christy Sports’ website through the end of the summer, the retailer will adjust store offerings regionally during its summer sale as follows:

Colorado
Front Range Stores (patio furniture), Littleton Store (select winter items), Mountain Stores (patio furniture, mountain lifestyle apparel, bicycles, winter items)

Utah

Washington

Montana
