Kamala Harris and Tim Walz agree to their first joint interview with CNN

Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz will be interviewed by CNN this week – Harris’ first major interview since accepting the Democratic presidential nomination.

The interview will air as a primetime special on CNN and across all of the network’s platforms on Thursday, August 29, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Harris and Walz, in their first joint interview, will be interviewed by CNN anchor and chief political correspondent Dana Bash from the swing state of Georgia.

The special, titled “The First Interview: Harris & Walz – A CNN Exclusive,” will stream live to pay-TV subscribers on August 29 on CNN.com, CNN Connected TV and mobile apps. Beginning Friday, August 30, the interview will also be available on demand to pay-TV subscribers on CNN.com, CNN Connected TV and mobile apps, as well as on cable operators’ platforms.

Harris launched her campaign for the White House just over five weeks ago – and has not given interviews with traditional media since, drawing criticism from Republicans including Donald Trump and his vice presidential nominee JD Vance. Harris did, however, give interviews to three content creators at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last week. Earlier this month, she had promised to schedule an interview with a major media outlet by the end of August.

Harris was named the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee when President Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election, amid pressure from party leaders, donors and rank-and-file Democrats who feared the aging politician would not be able to defeat Donald Trump. Harris announced Walz, the governor of Minnesota, as her vice presidential running mate on Aug. 6. The pair ceremoniously accepted the nominations last week at the celebrity-studded DNC.

Meanwhile, Harris and Trump are scheduled to face off in an ABC debate on September 10. On Tuesday, Trump confirmed his participation after questioning whether ABC News could ensure a “fair debate.” Under the debate’s agreed-upon rules, each candidate’s microphone will be muted while the other speaks.
