Women’s soccer team travels to Massachusetts during the week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After a dominant win over Marshall to start the 2024 season, the Harvard women’s soccer team will face the University of Massachusetts-Amherst on the road this Thursday. The Crimson (1-0-0, 0-0-0 Ivy) will face the Minutewomen (1-2-0, 0-0-0 A10) for the 31st place spot.st time in the series’ history when it travels to the western part of the state this week.

WHAT TO KNOW

Against Marshall

  • With the 1-0 result against Marshall on Monday, the Crimsons achieved their seventh consecutive opening victory at home.
  • Harvard only allowed five shots on goal during the game – two of which were on goal – and not a single corner kick, and showed a dominant defensive performance.
  • The clean sheet was the Crimsons’ third consecutive clean sheet at Jordan Field.
  • Josephine Hasbo picked up where she left off in 2023, scoring a goal in her season debut. The senior team captain has now scored in five of her last six college games.
  • Sarah Lloyd scored her first career point with an assist on Hasbo’s goal.
  • Three players made their college debut against the Thundering Herd, including Lloyd, Erin Gordon And Lauren Muniz.
  • Rhiannon Stewart recorded her first career shutout and saved two games.

Against UMass

  • Harvard trails the Minutewomen in the all-time series 13-15-2.
  • The Crimsons have won their last two games against UMass in 2022 and 2019 and have a record of 7-2-1 in their last ten games.
  • Seven members of the Crimson played in the game in 2022, including Jade Rose And Josephine Hasbowho played 90 and 64 minutes respectively.
  • UMass comes into the game fresh after earning a 1-0 win over Rutgers on Sunday (August 25), which was considered their first positive result of the season.
  • Previously, the group had lost against Army (August 22) and Syracuse (August 15) with a total score of 2:5.

On the way

  • Harvard has performed well in games away from Jordan Field, posting a 21-5-5 record in away games since 2019.
  • This will be the first of Harvard’s ten away games, the most in program history.

Preseason Awards and Honors

  • The Crimsons finished first in the Ivy League preseason media poll, receiving 120 votes and 10 first-place votes.
  • Josephine Hasbo And Jade Rose have been added to the United Soccer Coaches’ watchlists for midfielders and defenders.
  • The duo also landed on the annual Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Top 100 players list last week ahead of their final season. Josie was ranked 27th while Jade was ranked 62nd on the list.
  • Harvard entered the 2024 season ranked 19th in the Top Drawer Soccer national rankings. In the survey a year ago, Harvard was ranked 17th.
  • Harvard’s women’s soccer team was recently ranked among Soccer Wire’s top 50 national programs over the past five seasons. The Crimsons finished 46th on the list, which takes into account national rankings and accomplishments since the start of the 2020 season. The recognition is a testament to the rapid growth the program has experienced under coach Hamblin and his team, which is seeking its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in 2024.

The Crimsons will stay close for their next contest when they travel through the city of Boston to face the Northeastern Huskies. Harvard and Northeastern will meet for the 13th annual college basketball match on Labor Day (Sept. 2) at 6:30 p.m.th Time in the series’ history.
