A pizza truck from Central East Austin is moving to South Austin this summer. Good Vibrations Pizza Co. will open Saturday, August 31, at East Congress neighborhood brewery Vacancy Brewing at 415 East St. Elmo Road, Building 1, Suite D2.
At Good Vibrations, co-owners and couple Austin Smith and Megan Smith focus on wood-fired pizza. Pizzas include Sweet Heat with tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, spicy Italian sausage, pickled jalapenos and spicy honey; Figgy Piggy with extra virgin olive oil, mozzarella, gorgonzola, fig jam, bacon and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar; Lovely Rita, their take on the classic Margherita.
The Smiths launched their pizza pop-up in North Carolina in 2022 under the name Sweethearts. The couple decided to move back to Austin in 2023 and changed the name of the pop-up to Good Vibrations, which opened in August 2023. Back then, they opened at places like Cavalier Bar, Nomadic Beerworks Brewery, Stay Put Beer Bar and Brewery, and at Vacancy itself, and then opened the pizza truck at King Bee in May 2024. The last day of operation at the Central East Austin bar was August 25. Prior to the pizza pop-up, the pair had worked at various restaurants and bars in Austin in different capacities.
The name change to Good Vibrations happened because they wanted the name to reflect “who we are as a company,” the Smiths said through a spokesperson. They were interested in pizza because they already enjoyed baking and ventured into pizza making at the beginning of the pandemic. A food truck was also a logical next step: “We like how simple it can be and yet a lot of love and passion is required to produce a consistently good pizza.”
Vacancy often hosts food pop-ups. Earlier this year, it was home to Laotian food truck Sekse Fud Ko before closing in the spring to make way for its far-east Austin restaurant, Lao’d Bar.
Good Vibrations’ Vacancy’s initial opening hours are from noon to 10pm on Saturday, August 31, and then from noon to 8pm on Sunday, September 1. Regular opening hours thereafter are 4pm to 10pm on Wednesday and Thursday, 2pm to 10pm on Friday, noon to 10pm on Saturday, noon to 10pm and noon to 8pm on Sunday.
