Parts of I-80 west of Lincoln will be closed next week for bridge construction

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – Portions of the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-80 west of Lincoln will be temporarily closed next week for bridge work.

Two bridges over I-80 were demolished in July. Now the Nebraska Department of Transportation says the upcoming closure is being done so that bridge supports over I-80 can be moved to the NW 126th Street and NW 98th Street overpasses.

I-80 westbound will be closed from 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 4th through 6:00 a.m. Thursday, September 5th. Traffic will be detoured at the I-80/I-180 interchange (exit 401) and diverted west on N-34 to Matzke Highway. From there, turn south and merge onto I-80 at the Milford interchange (exit 382).

I-80 eastbound will be closed from 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5th through 6:00 a.m. Friday, September 6th. Traffic will be detoured at the Milford Interchange (Exit 382) and diverted north to N-34 and then east onto N-34. Traffic will rejoin I-80 at Interchange 401.

The contractor for the project is Hawkins Construction Co. of Omaha.

NDOT reminds drivers to drive carefully, buckle up and put away phones in and near work zones.
